Overly large breasts aren't just a cosmetic concern—they can cause real physical pain and limit your daily life. Breast reduction is one of the most life-changing procedures I perform, with patients consistently telling me they wish they'd done it years earlier.
Schedule Consultation View ResultsBreast reduction, medically known as reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to achieve a breast size more proportionate to your body. Unlike a breast lift (which primarily repositions), reduction actually decreases volume while also lifting and reshaping.
The result is lighter, smaller breasts that sit higher on the chest—relieving strain on your neck, shoulders, and back while creating a more balanced silhouette. For many women, this procedure eliminates pain they've lived with for years.
Breast reduction addresses both physical discomfort and aesthetic concerns, often delivering immediate relief that patients describe as "life-changing."
Eliminate neck, shoulder, and back pain caused by carrying excess breast weight day after day.
Run, jump, and participate in activities that were previously uncomfortable or impossible.
Shop for bras and clothes that actually fit—without alterations or compromises.
No more rashes, chafing, or infections under the breasts from trapped moisture.
Stand taller naturally without the forward pull of heavy breast tissue.
Feel comfortable in your body and less self-conscious about your proportions.
If you experience any of these symptoms regularly, breast reduction may provide the relief you've been looking for.
I spent 20 years with constant back pain and didn't realize how much of my life was being affected until it was gone. Dr. Neavin gave me relief I never thought possible—and beautiful results on top of it.
Breast Reduction Patient
"Breast reduction isn't just about removing tissue—it's about creating a breast that looks natural, sits well, and holds its shape over time. That takes surgical precision and an aesthetic eye."
With over 20 years of experience performing breast surgery in Beverly Hills, I've developed techniques that prioritize both function and aesthetics. My approach to breast reduction focuses on three key principles: adequate reduction to relieve symptoms, beautiful breast shape with natural projection, and well-hidden scars that fade over time.
As an internationally recognized lecturer on fat transfer techniques, I bring a unique perspective to breast reduction. In some cases, I use fat grafting to refine contours or correct asymmetry—achieving results that would be difficult with tissue removal alone. This dual expertise allows me to customize each procedure to the patient's specific anatomy and goals.
I perform all breast reduction surgeries at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, one of the nation's top hospitals, where patients have access to the highest standards of safety and care. Every patient receives my direct attention from consultation through recovery.
The incision pattern depends on how much tissue needs to be removed and your breast anatomy. During consultation, I'll recommend the technique that achieves your goals with the least visible scarring.
Incision only around the areola. Best for small reductions with minimal excess skin. Results in the least visible scarring.
Incision around areola plus vertical line to breast crease. Ideal for moderate reductions while avoiding horizontal scar.
Full anchor-shaped incision for maximum tissue removal and reshaping. Necessary for large reductions; scars are well-concealed.
During your consultation, we'll discuss your symptoms, goals, and what size you'd like to be after surgery. I'll examine your breasts, assess tissue quality and nipple position, and explain which technique will work best for your situation. We'll look at before-and-after photos of patients with similar starting points so you can see realistic outcomes. If you're considering insurance coverage, we'll discuss documentation requirements at this time.
Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 3-4 hours depending on the amount of tissue being removed. I remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin, then reshape the remaining tissue into a smaller, lifted breast. The nipple and areola are repositioned higher on the breast mound—in most cases, they remain attached to their blood supply (a "pedicle") to preserve sensation and potential breastfeeding ability. If your areolas are large, I can reduce their diameter at the same time. The incisions are closed in layers for optimal healing and minimal scarring.
I perform breast reduction surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's outpatient surgical facility, where you'll have access to board-certified anesthesiologists and the highest safety standards. Most patients go home the same day, though overnight observation can be arranged if preferred. You'll need someone to drive you home and stay with you the first night.
Most patients are surprised by how manageable recovery is—and how quickly they notice relief from their previous symptoms.

Unlike most cosmetic procedures, breast reduction may be covered by insurance when deemed medically necessary. Coverage typically requires documentation of symptoms that have persisted despite conservative treatment.
Common insurance requirements include:
My staff is experienced in working with insurance companies and can help you understand your coverage. Even if insurance doesn't cover the full cost, partial reimbursement is often possible.
